Licensing FAQ

Q:  How is Quosal licensed?

A:  There are two key license methods:  Perpetual License and Hosted SaaS (Software as a Service.  All Quosal licensing is by named user.

Q:  How does Perpetual Licensing work?

A:  This is the standard type of licensing for PC software.  You purchase a license of Quosal, and that license is yours to use perpetually.   There is an optional 20% annual maintenance fee that you will be billed automatically.

Q:  How does SaaS licensing work?

A:  With Software as a Service licensing, you pay monthly by the seat.  You are automatically billed to your credit card for each monthly payment.  Your data is hosted in “the cloud” on one of our hosting servers or services.

Q:  What are the functional differences between Licensed and Hosted Quosal?

A:  There is no functional difference in the products – they are installed on your client PC the same, act and work the same.  The major difference is that you MUST be online to use the Hosted version (although there are also ways to work offline).  Also, your data is hosted by Quosal and not on your own premises.

Q:  Can I still back up my data with the Hosted version?

A:  Yes, your data is fully accessible for your own backups with the Hosted version of Quosal.

Q:  What if I change my mind – can I migrate from Hosted to Licensed?

A:   Yes, you can migrate at any time, but you must pay for the licensed version of Quosal.  Your data will migrate fully from Hosted to Licensed.

Q:  How is Etilize licensed?

A:  Etilize is not a license, it is a content access subscription.  It is often “bundled” with Quosal, but is in fact a separate subscription that is billed each year (for the Licensed version of Quosal) or included in your monthly seat license if you are on our SaaS services.

Q:  Is there annual maintenance for Etilize?

A:  No, it is an all-inclusive subscription.   Quosal support for Etilize is included in the subscription price.

Q:  How does “Named User” licensing work?

A:  “Named User” licensing means that each user that uses Quosal needs a license.  Each user logs into and uses Quosal with his or her own login credentials.  The interface to other systems (such as your CRM or operations systems) also typically requires a specific user’s login credentials.

Q:  So even only occasional users require a license?

A:  Yes.

Q:  Are there users who don’t need a license?

A:  Many users only need to review quotes and provide feedback on them.  For example, an engineer might only need to read over a quote configuration and provide blessing or comments.  For this purpose, they don’t need to use Quosal.

Q:  Do my salespeople need a license if we have one admin that prepares quotes for all of them?

A:  Yes, each quote preparer AND the salespeople they are preparing quotes for require a license.   If the salesperson’s name will appear on the quote, and if their credentials are used within your other systems to track opportunities, sales, and commissions then they need a license.  The value of Quosal is derived from the number of salespeople presenting quotes to your customers.

Q:  If licensed users leave, can their license be used for other users?

A:  Absolutely.  You have purchased a certain number of named users, and those licenses can be used for your current users and future users who take their place.  You simply “deactivate” those users to make room for more.

Q:  What if we exceed the number of licensed users?

A:  You must activate each user, so our license server will alert you if you are exceeding your number of licensed users.

Q:  I have 3 PC’s I need to run Quosal on.  Must I purchase a copy for each PC?

A: Quosal is licensed by user, not by device.   You can install and activate Quosal for yourself on up to five devices.    This accommodates your home and work PC, laptop, virtual sessions, and re-installations.  If you actually run out of installs, Quosal will provide more for you – we’ll just want to check on your usage first.

Q;  I have a lot of users that really only require very occasional use – it doesn’t seem fair that I have to purchase a full license for them.  Is there any alternative?

A:  Contact us about “Flex Licensing”.  In some cases, we’re able to review your specific situation and make create a win/win licensing arrangement if you have 10 users or more.

Q:  How do I add users to my license?

A:  Simply contact Quosal to purchase and add users.

Q:  When I add users, do I pay the full single-user price?

A:  Any users added within 6 months of your initial licensing will be added at the same “per user” price that you originally paid.  Users that are added more than six months from original purchase will be added at the then-current “best price” for the number of users you’re adding.  The intent of this program is to allow you to make your initial purchase even if you’re not sure of an exact seat count, but still get “best pricing” when you fine-tune the number of seats.

Q:  There is a better price for 5 users than for 3, but I’m not sure I need 5…what if I buy 3 now then add 2 more within six month?

A:  You’ll receive the better pricing, and overall you’ll pay the same for the final headcount that you would have if you had purchased five initially.  This is “price protection”.

Q:  Can I license Etilize for just 2 of my 5 users?

A:  No, Etilize is activated for all users and there’s no meaningful way for only some users to use Etilize.
